London 2012 Olympics & Paralympic Games
The Challenge
The organization of the passenger logistics for the London 2012 Olympic games is probably one of the biggest challenges that anyone can remember and not one that Network Creative would claim to be be able to achieve on it’s own!? But we were there and played an important role working with Arriva/TGM in delivering the transport for the Olympic family and sponsors, utilizing some 450 coaches and 1300 drivers from all over the Country.
Arriva/TGM had won the contract to deliver the transport for the Olympic family through the Games. From a purpose built facility at Poyle – straight under the end of Heathrow’s busy runways- four operational teams were assembled to deliver this project. Richard from Network Creative managed one of these teams responsible for delivering the requirements of 10 different sponsors using 125 vehicles and 300 drivers. This operation was one of the biggest of it’s kind since the 2nd world war and not without it’s problems simply because of the scale and complexity of the requirements of the people travelling.
The Conclusion
Whilst some of the operation was difficult to manage, the mastering of four different scheduling and dispatch systems and the help and assistance of many of the senior managers and directors from both Arriva and TGM, the project to deliver transport for the Olympic Family was deemed a success.
During the operation Network Creative supplied a second operations manager to supplement the team and were also asked to return and complete the requirements of the Paralympic Family.
In addition a lot of new friends were made that will ensure the network of operators known to Richard is that much bigger.
